..and what’s with all the vowels?
We were originally called Contenco because we wanted a sensible name that would not put off traditional media companies. The problem was that when we presented to investors, their response was that we were an old fashioned company seeking to help a dying industry. A friend of ours in Silicon Valley said: “Investors believe that every cool company now has two Os in its name: Google, Facebook, Yahoo, Ooyala etc. Go find a company with two Os in the name and play them at their own game.” We bought Oovvuu as a domain for $89 and designed the logo for $49 and went back to the investors with the same pitch and the same deck, but a new name and logo. We haven’t looked back since :)
